The Birthday Makeup Edit

I've seen posts like these a lot before, where you show your special occasion makeup. And I just thought it might be a bit of fun, especially seeing at I've spoken about these products before but the outcome is much different to what you've seen me do before.

So last Saturday was my 23rd Birthday and I was in New York with a dramatically smaller makeup bag than what I'm used to, in order to save valuable suitcase room! I knew I wanted to go for something super glittery but using a single palette that is easy to travel with, i.e something that does everthing. So here goes...

For my base:

NARS - Sheer Glow Foundation

Obviously. It's hands down my favourite foundation, I've ever used. I haven't picked up another in about 2-3 months.

NARS - Creamy Radiant Concealer

Again, another favourite, never leaves my makeup bag sort of product! You should have guessed really.

NARS - Orgasm Blush

I'm seeing a NARS trend here with my base products, this is going to change I promise. But I managed to get my hands on the Limited Edition NARS Glossybox (I blogged about it here), and it's so little and cute, how could I not?

BECCA - Shimmering Skin Perfector

I had planned on taking a KIKO shadow as a highlight but I was given this a few days before I left. It's a mini version so perfect for travelling and the colour is beautiful, out of this world kind of beautiful!

On my eyes I mainly used the Stila - Eyes are the Window Palette in Soul, but more specifially:

Maybelline - Colour Tattoo in Pink Pomegranate

I talk about this all the time, I pretty much own every colour! It's a great base for dry shadows as it stays put and doesn't crease. It has a little shimmer too which I love but is be great for wearing casually, not just on my birthday.

Stila Palette - Heart

This shade is a matte, taupe colour which I applied over the outer halves of my lids to add a bit of shadow and depth.

Stila Paletter - Peace

This was my crease shade, it's a much warmer brown with a super subtle sparkle.

Stila Palette - Character

Useing a smaller shadow brush I took this dark brown (almost black) shade into the deepest parts of the crease to add a little bit of drama and more depth. I then smoked it out with my MAC 217.

Barry M Dazzle Dust - Tan

I talk about these all the time, normally I apply similarly to a normal shadow, on a fluffy brush with painterly motions. This however was applied with a flat shadow brush and I patted it on. This way I got more product and more of a metallic finish all over the lid.

MAC Fluidline - Blacktrack

I wouldn't normally take this on holiday with me because it's more space consuming than a basic liquid liner but I need something that's going to stay put on my face all day as I won't have the facilities to be touching it up throughout the day! So this has made it into my look, standard cat eye!

Two Faced - Better than Sex Mascara

Bold, dramatic, black lashes tops of the eyes nicely.

On my lips:

Rimmel London Kate Moss Lipstick - 08

Your lips but better shade, super easy to wear and it's not absolutely necessary to touch up like 'Dark Side' by MAC would be.

I just finished off with a splash of Rimmel Stay Matte Powder all over the face and voila! What do you think? This look is really pretty, I liked the versatility. I literally wore it all week without the glitter for a casual, daytime look but then dressed it up on my birthday for something a bit more special! I had fun re-creating it again this week for you...

Love always,
Melissa
