Currently #10: Be true to who you are...

I have always been an ambassador for being your own person. Being able to be happy, comfortable and confident in your own self. With the media and celebrity culture these days, to be able to turn around and say “I am happy with who I am” is a high achievmant which should be celebrated. Everyone is unique and individual and special, no matter who you are. And when somebody can be happy with that, even when everybody and everything is constantly being judged and compared, I think that is great.

That’s why I’m such a huge advocate for individuality.

What is individuality? Understandably no one can be completely unique. I did my dissertation on this at Uni. For we grow up being influenced and responding to life. The TV channels we grew up watching, the artists we listen to. When you have been subject to the media, you are always going to be influenced my something. That’s not a bad thing, quite the opposite really. When you’re influenced by something your opinions and ways of viewing are challenged.

I guess what I’m trying to say is, be you. It’s so important to be yourself, be influenced by others but don’t change who you are.

The things I choose to do are because I feel passionate about an idea, for instance, I started this blog because I was bored and wanted to try something new. I began typing and by some beautiful twist of fate, it turned into something magical. Something that I truly love doing. I now spend my only days off typing because it’s something I am passionate and emotionally attached to. I plan, I research and type in the hope that someone out there will appreciate my words. And that is enough, the hope. It would suck pretty bad if someone then took, all the planning and the researching and brainstorming I do to create something vaguely new and exciting and took it for themselves because they weren’t being true to their own idea’s and their own capabilities.

Maybe I want to share this with you because I think it might actually be happening and it’s helpful for me to vent in this way. Maybe I want to share this with you because it’s happened before. I definitely want to share this with you because I want you to be true to yourself.

Love always,
Melissa
