29 April 2015

The last two weeks have been a blur of website coding, business card designing and the attempt to create a presence for my Art online. For those of you who don't know i've spent the past 3 years studying towards a degree in Art and on Monday I had my second to last deadline of my entire University experience. To say that time has flown is an understatement, I can't believe that in just over one months time i'll be classes as a professional artist. Well, I hope anyway.

Stress at the moment is pretty much as high as Mount Kilimanjaro so yesterday to try and relax a little, George and I took the puppy for this beautiful walk surrounded by thousands of Bluebells. The three of us had a whale of a time swimming through the field of blue, the puppy occasionally getting lost in the midst of it all. It wasn't until a we heard a her sneeze that we knew where she was.

I know I missed all my posts last week and I didn't want to continue that through to this week so I thought instead i'd share with you some of my photo's from the day. It was so fun and as I type this the puppy is snuggled against my stomach regaining some of that energy she lost earlier.

Regular posting will resume soon, I promise.

Love always,
Melissa

I am a huge fan of introducing essential oils into my haircare routine because they always seem to work miracles. However, up until week and a half a go, i'd never tried them as part of my skin care routine. Which is ridiculous considering how much I love them!

I've been trying the Oz Naturals 'Vitamin C Serum' which they claim is 'the best vitamin C serum for your face.' Bold statement I know, but I completely agree.

If you've read any of my make-up posts before, you'll be aware that I struggle with under eye products because of the texture of my skin which make my foundation and concealer look cakey. Not good when you're going for the natural look. It's something i've battled with for years and no under eye specific cream has ever worked quite like this one. My skin is so much smoother and definitely a lot firmer which is a dream come true, I can put on my make-up, in a rush and not have to worry about spending 15 minutes blending to get rid of the horrible "I used a shovel to do my make-up look.

The serum is made up of mostly organic products such a Hyaluronic Acid (boosts collagen production), Ferulic Acid (a natural plant based antioxidant) and a blend of Vitamin E and C. It is beautiful to apply, the small pipette makes is easy to get a sensible amount onto a cotton pad which i've been dabbing onto my skin daily before applying moisturiser. It soaks in quickly and doesn't sit on the skin so for those of you with oily skin, I would imagine this would be a dream. The 30ml bottle is small but a little goes a long way.

The serum is designed to target signs ageing and make your skin firmer and more radiant. Granted, I'm only 22 so don't really have to worry about wrinkles and fine lines just yet but you've got to start somewhere. It's nice to know I have a ageing preventative in my skincare routine. And plus, I enjoy a hot holiday just as much as the next person, skin damage because of the sun is something I worry about all the time. The Hyaluronic Acid in the serum will help the skin cells repair after time in the sun so it's definitely got a worthy place in my skincare routine that's for sure.

And finally, not forgetting the product is not tested on animals. Which for any cosmetic or beauty related product to be cruelty free is a rare find in today's market and something that i'll always be more enthusiastic talking about.

I'd love to know if you're using any essential oil products in your skincare routine, i'm interested to learn/try more seeing as it went so well first time around. If you want to pick up the product i've been trying, you can here.

Love always,
Melissa

For someone who has used the same foundation since she was 16, realising that it's no longer right for me and moving on was some what difficult. I've never had to match colour to skin tone before or even shop for the right formula for my skin type. The lady behind the counter in Boots did all of the hard work for me, my Mum even paid for it. Easy peasy.

If you read my blog regularly, you'll remember the 'me time' tag that I posted a couple weeks ago. I was browsing my stats the other day and noticed that it received the most and best positive feedback of all my posts over the past year. I've been at work so much this week so thought i'd do another tag post because they're so fun and laid back. Here we go, the beauty scenario tag...

1. You have to get rid of all your foundations and you can only keep one high end and one drugstore, which do you keep?

Well, I don't own any high store foundations, yet! But, Chanel Vita Lumiere, NARS Sheer Glow are on my wish list so i'll get back to you on that. However, for drugstore foundations it would probably be the L'oreal True Match foundation. I'm using the Bourjois Healthy Mix at the moment which I love but i'm pretty sure I picked up a shade too dark.

2. You go for an interview and the lady interviewing you has lipstick on her teeth. Do you approach the subject or ignore it completely?

Ignore it. No question. I'm quite socially awkward with people I don't know and scenario's like interviews make me so anxious anyway, there is no way i'd even consider telling the lady interviewing  I would feel horrible afterwards but the whole experience would just be awkward and uncomfortable after telling them. I feel uncomfortable just thinking about it.

3. You're not feeling yourself and need a pick me up. Which lipstick do you put on to make yourself feel beautiful?

You guessed it, 'Dark Side' by MAC. I thought long and hard about this, because it's such a dark shade but I love it on me and i've received so many compliments recently when i've been wearing it.

4. You go back in time for a day to your teenage years, how would you do your hair and makeup differently?

First of all I would stop myself from dying my hair. When I was in college I thought I could be this cool 'scene' kid and tried dying my hair all sorts of colours that really washed me out. I looked ridiculous.

5. You ask your hairdresser for a shoulder length Pixie Lott hair cut, but they hear wrong and give you a pixi cut. Do you:

a) Smile, say thank you, leave and call your mum hysterical
b) Cry in the chair and things get awkward or
c) Complain to the manager and demand a refund.

There is no way i'd say anything. I would definitely just leave and call my mum in tears. My hair grows so slow, so if my hairdresser cut it into a pixie cut i'd be devastated.

6. Your friend surprises you with a 4 day city break and you have 1 hour to pack. Which 'do it all' palette do you pack in your makeup bag?

Stila 'Eyes are the Window' Palette. This hands down is my palette of the year, I have head over heals fallen in love and would even go as far as saying it's better than the UD Naked palettes.

7. Your house has been robbed, don't worry everyone is safe, but your beauty stash has been raided. What's the product you really hope is safe?

My liquid liner. I don't care which brand or colour, so long as I can do my cat eye flicks I am a happy bunny. I look so naked without them!

8. Your friend borrows your makeup and returns it in awful condition. Do you:

a) Just pretend you haven't noticed
b) Ask them to repurchase it or
c) Secretly do the same to something of theirs

Ok, c) is just plain spiteful, i'd never do that. To be honest I don't reckon I would share my make-up, definitely not anything that came into contact with the eyes or mouth that's for sure. However if I did, I probably wouldn't say anything, you have to replace you make-up every 6months to a year anyway so i'd just save up for a new one. I'd be gutted though.

Like the 'me time' tag, i'm not going to tag anyone in particular, but i'd really like you to do give it a go and let me know so I can read your answers and see if theres anything you'd do differently to me!

Love always,
Melissa

At the moment I am really falling in love with the motion of Spring, the weather over the Easter weekend was amazing. And for the first time since I purchased MAC's 'Dark Side', I don't want to put it on. Instead i've been feeling the bare lip rosy cheek vibe.

If you read my New York Haul, you'll know alongside 'Dark Side' I also picked up one of Tarte's Amazonian Clay blushes in the shade 'Fearless'. I hadn't used it much because it's such a bright, beautiful pink shade and doesn't go with 'Dark Side' which i've worn pretty much constantly since February. However since the sun came out on Friday morning, I haven't taken it off and i'm pretty much besotted with it that I think it's going to take a permanent fixture in my daily make-up routine.

Tarte isn't that readily available in the UK, you can order it off of the Sephora website if you're willing to pay the delivery and import charges. A good alternative however would be the Clinique Cheek Pop in 'Plum Pop' or 'Berry Pop', both beautiful shades for the warmer weather.

Melissa

4 April 2015

I have been working my butt off this week, i'm on Easter break from Uni so have taken on full time hours at my part time job. I need the money but the 2 days off a week that i'm getting aren't enough to keep up to date on Uni work and have that 'me time' we discussed a couple weeks ago. However, Easter weekend means bank holidays and bank holidays mean no work for me. So I thought i'd put together a list of all the 'de-stress' techniques i'm plan to try this bank holiday weekend.

Walking the puppy

This isn't out of the ordinary, I walk the puppy most days of the week but this weekend i'm going to try and find some new places to take her. The fresh air will be great and the new environment will be a perfect to unwind and stimulate new thoughts.

A Long Bath

TK Maxx are selling large bags of different types of bath salts so I might pick some up late today on my lunch break seeing as i've run out of all of my lush bath bombs.

Light some candles

I love candles but i've never lit them with my bath before, definitely on my list of things to do.

Chill Music

The other night, I had music playing as I tried to sleep (partly to drown out snoring from another room and partly because it slows the thoughts that keep you awake) and I think I might try create a new playlist to help me relax.

Hire the Boyfriend Masseuse

George is great and if I ask will normally give me a massage after a long day, I try not to take liberties and ask all the time because I know he'll say yes however i'm going to try make the most of it this weekend.

Friends on repeat, all weekend

The forecast for the bank holiday weekend is all rain I believe so the sound of snuggling up in bed watching old re-runs of 'Friends' sounds great.

Puppy cuddles/nap time

And whilst i'm watching hours upon hours of 'Friends' i'll see if the puppy fancies getting in on the deal too.

Start a new book

I bought 'Goldfinger' before going to Thailand in January and still haven't got around to reading it, so hopefully this weekend will be the one I do.

Go Swimming

I miss swimming. I'm taking my niece out Monday, Swimming will be on the agenda for sure.

Pick some flowers

Ideally i'd like to go to the beach with a bucket and just carelessly stroll along picking up shells but the beach is a little to far for me to drive. So as a happy medium, I want to go flower picking. I love having plants in the home because it brightens up the place and i've never picked them myself before!

Long late night drive

Potentially my favourite late night activity is to just drive with no destination. Day dreaming as the street lights fly past is so relaxing and it's something I haven't done in ages.

Wrap up warm, watch the stars

The last time I did this was in the Summer during the Perseids meteor shower. It's warming up a little here so if the rain stops i'd love to wrap up and head outside and just stargaze for a while.

Play The Sims

The Sims is just nostalgia central for me and if I could i'd probably play it for a living, I've been so swamped with Uni work that I don't think i've played it in a couple years. So, in between having Friends marathons and puppy cuddles, this game is making a comeback.

I think i've gone completely over board with the 'de-stress' plans but my oh my does this list sound perfect. I'm going to do my best to try and do everything, i'll keep you updated on how I get on.

What are you doing this weekend? Any family easter traditions?  Or like me are you just using it as the perfect excuse to put your feet up?

Love always,
Melissa
